Miratlas and PlaneWave Instruments announce partnership to streamline robotic telescope operation

GREOUX LES BAINS, FRANCE, JUNE 23RD, 2020 – Miratlas SAS and PlaneWave Instruments Inc. announce today their commercial collaboration joining efforts to facilitate site survey, robotic telescope systems, and optical ground station operations.

PlaneWave Instruments expertise in both optical and mechanical design since 2006 allowed them to develop over the years a complete range of telescopes from 35cm up to 1m diameter as well as a corresponding choice of mounts capable of delivering high speed and high precision tracking for payloads up to 135kg.

Miratlas established in 2018 provides a unique turn-key solution for complete optical atmospheric characterisation of cloud cover, turbulence, absorption, and weather which are critical to automated telescope operations.

With the rise of demand for fully autonomous and continuous operation from robotic telescope, not only for astronomy but also for New Space applications such as Free-Space Optical Communication  (FSOC) and Space Situational Awareness, both companies are looking to offer a more streamlined solution to their customers thanks to their combined knowledge and added expertise.

“The added value that Miratlas brings along with our offerings shall enable entities to fulfill their application goals while they plan, build, and upgrade their optical sites,” said Ruben D. Nunez, FSOC Market Segment lead and European Managing Director of PlaneWave Instruments.

“This partnership reinforces the already existing complementary with PlaneWave Instruments and we’re looking forward to allow our customers to benefit from the synergy.“ Jean-Edouard Communal, CBDO & co-founder of Miratlas.
