Hand Control- EFA Kit

The EFA (Electronic Focusing Accessory) control box can be mounted to the back plate of any PlaneWave telescope OTA (12.5 through 24 inches). The EFA Kit reads the primary mirror and ambient temperature sensors.The EFA controls the fan systems that are built into each telescope.

A Hand Controller is provided to control an optional Focuser or Rotator when standing at the eyepiece. The EFA kit comes with PlaneWave Interface (PWI4), a software package that controls all EFA functions from a PC. Cables and adapters are provided to attach the EFA kit to a PC. The EFA kit is ASCOM compatible.

QHY411/QHY461 have both mono and color version. The application of this camera includes astronomy imaging, astronomy photography, space object survey, satellite tracking, etc.

Benefiting from its back-illuminated pixel structure, the QHY411 has a large full well of 80ke-. And when using 2 * 2 binning, the full well can reach 320ke-, corresponding to a merged pixel size of 7.5um * 7.5um; while at 3 * 3 binning, the full well can be up to 720ke- with a large pixel size of 11um * 11um, which is much larger than any other CCD or CMOS sensor of the same pixel size. The new CFW3 series filter wheels are available in four sizes to accommodate filters from 1.25-inch to 50 millimeters square.

For filter wheel control a custom QHY 4-pin filter wheel port is included that provides power and control signals for QHY dual control filter wheels like the series 3 filter wheels.  Both the series 2 and new series 3 filter wheels can be controlled by either an independent external program using the filter wheel’s USB port or via the QHY 4-pin serial port. When connected to the QHY 4-pin port there is no need for an additional power cable or control program.  All of the filter wheel functions are controlled through the camera and its operating Software.

The series 3 filter wheels utilize a new motor with direct drive and will reverse direction to take the shortest path when moving from one filter to another. For Example, in this demonstration the wheel moves from filter position 1 to position 2 to position 3 and then back to 1 again, over to position 7 and back to position 1 without ever making a complete rotation of the carousel.  This saves time if you’re doing a lot of filter changes in one imaging session.

LED changes color for each filter position.  The tricolor LED assigns one unique color or combination of colors to each filter position so you can tell if it’s moved to the correct position without removing it from the Telescope.

The CFW3 is also thin.  This feature and the short back focus of the COLDMOS cameras means you can add one of several camera lens adapters for Canon and Nikon camera lenses for wide field imaging with the filter wheel.

In the center of the back plate is a 12-volt DC power port.  This port is threaded for a short extension cable that is supplied with the camera that securely attaches such that it will not accidentally disconnect while you are imaging.

Extended Warranties for PlaneWave Telescopes up to 24-inches allow the two-year mechanics and electronics coverage of the Standard Warranty to be extended in one-year increments, up to 5 years from the covered product’s date of purchase. Extended warranties cover all parts and labor costs necessary to repair and return the covered product to manufacturer’s original specification. PlaneWave accessories installed on the covered telescope are also covered, including motorized mirror-covers, Delta-T, EFA, and focuser or rotating-focuser.

As an additional benefit, Extended Warranty for PlaneWave Telescopes (up to 24”) owners receive an annual clean-and-check of the covered product for no cost other than round-trip shipping.* For telescopes, this service covers cleaning, collimation, and checking of electronic and/or mechanical components. For focusers and rotators, this service covers cleaning, relubrication, adjustment of mechanical alignment, and checking of electronic components.

*Governments and institutions may request a quote and purchase pre‐paid travel coverage.

What is covered:

  • Parts and labor for mechanical and electronic components, or any related workmanship defects or deficiencies, for the term of the extended warranty, not to exceed 5 years from the covered product’s date of purchase and with term defined by customer’s PlaneWave invoice

How To Obtain Service:

  1. Contact PlaneWave to open a warranty-service ticket. This may be done via phone at (310) 6391662 during normal business hours (M-F, 9AM-5PM Pacific), or via email at support@planewave.com.
  2. Work with PlaneWave technical staff to fully diagnose issue(s).
  3. Package and/or crate the product, and ship to PlaneWave, noting the return authorization number you have been issued on the shipping-label or boldly on the exterior of the shipping container. You will be responsible for the cost of packaging and round-trip shipping.
  4. PlaneWave will inspect and determine if the product is defective in either workmanship or materials. If the returned product is determined to be covered by warranty, PlaneWave will repair or replace all or part of the product, invoice for return shipping costs, and return the product to you.
  5. Alternatively, and at PlaneWave’s discretion, you may be shipped the replacement part(s) necessary for PlaneWave technical staff to guide you through minor repair.

SecureFit Spacers For CDK 14,17,20, & 24

When you need a secure way to attach a CCD camera at the image plane of a CDK telescope, the Secure Fit Spacers get you the optimal back focus spacing. These spacers attach via four screws to the PlaneWave Hedrick and IRF90 Focusers.  When coupled with a PlaneWave SecureFit CCD Adapter, they practically eliminate slippage, movement, and equipment drops. The spacers come in eight different lengths: 2.1″, 3.8″, 4.5″, 5.2″, 5.9″, 6.75″, 7.5″, and 8.25″.

These spacers are made for the CDK14, 17, 20, and 24 and do not work with the CDK12.5.  The CDK12.5 Secure Fit Spacers have a different bore size.
